         <p><name type="place" subtype="street">Main Street</name> was called <name type="place" subtype="street">Pine</name> in the early days<choice><orig/><reg>,</reg></choice> and a few Negroes<lb/>
                  had homes on it. There were no stores in that section<choice><orig/><reg>,</reg></choice> and it was some<lb/>
                  years later before any business houses located in that vicinity. <choice><orig>Ou</orig><reg/></choice><lb/>

                  Out west on <name type="place" subtype="street">Bay Street</name> where the <name type="place" subtype="building">Union Depot</name> is located, a fish<lb/>
                  pond occupied the entire area<choice><orig/><reg>,</reg></choice> and people rowed up and down <choice><orig/><reg><supplied>the</supplied></reg></choice><note type="editorial">We have supplied <mentioned>the</mentioned>, which is absent in the original.</note> section that<lb/>
                  we now know as <name type="place" subtype="street">Bay Street</name>.<lb/></p>
         <p><name type="person">Irene Coates</name> remembers when the first <name type="oorganization" subtype="company">Atlantic Coast Line Rail<choice><orig>&#8212;</orig><reg/></choice><lb break="no"/>road</name> came into <name type="place" subtype="city">Jacksonville</name>. Part of the tracks were on <name type="place" subtype="street">Bridge</name> and turned<lb/>
            east on <name type="place" subtype="street">Bay</name> to <name type="place" subtype="street">Hogan</name>. The depot for these trains was at <name type="place" subtype="address">corner of Bay and<lb/>
               Hogan</name>. Prior to this time<choice><orig/><reg>,</reg></choice> the people had to go by boat to <name type="place" subtype="city">St. Augustine</name><choice><orig>.</orig><reg>,</reg></choice><lb/>
                  and a surrey carried them from the boat into <name type="place" subtype="city">St. Augustine</name>. The <name type="institution" subtype="company"><choice><orig>atlantic</orig><reg>Atlantic</reg></choice><lb/>
                  Coast Line</name> running from <name type="place" subtype="city">St. Augustine</name> to <name type="place" subtype="city">Jacksonville</name> and the old <name type="institution" subtype="company">Fernan<choice><orig>&#8212;</orig><reg/></choice><lb break="no"/>dina line</name> coming in afforded the people the only two railroads for some<lb/>
                  years. The rest of the traveling was done by boat.<lb/></p>
               <p>The <name type="place" subtype="cemetery"><choice><orig>old</orig><reg>Old</reg></choice> City Cemetery</name>, then called <name type="place" subtype="cemetery">Burbridge Cemetery</name><choice><orig/><reg>,</reg></choice> was the<lb/>
                  only burying ground and was needed for both <choice><orig>White</orig><reg>white</reg></choice> and Negroes. It is remark<choice><orig>-</orig><reg/></choice><lb break ="no"/>able to note that a lot is still fenced in at that cemetery<choice><orig/><reg>,</reg></choice> and <choice><orig>tomb stones</orig><reg>tombstones</reg></choice><lb/>
                  are there that were erected more than fifty years ago.<lb/></p>
