					On his plantation there were no<lb/>
					stocks but real bad ones were<lb/>
					sent to other plantation where<lb/>
					stocks were <choice><abbr>&amp;</abbr><expan>and</expan></choice> they would go<lb/>
					over <choice><abbr>&amp;</abbr><expan>and</expan></choice> borrow other man <unclear cert="medium" reason="handwriting difficult to read">con<lb break="no"/>venieace</unclear>

					the <name type="person">Boss</name> would sell them<choice><orig/><reg>.</reg></choice><lb/>
					They said it was too much<lb/>
					punishment. Didn't believe<lb/>
					much in using sticks <choice><abbr>&amp;</abbr><expan>and</expan></choice> whipping<lb/>
					them.<lb/>

					Food was corn bread, peas<choice><orig/><reg>,</reg></choice><lb/>
					beans, greens<choice><orig/><reg>,</reg></choice> cabbage<choice><orig/><reg>,</reg></choice> corn.<lb/>
					Hog meat, <choice><orig>Chicken</orig><reg>chicken</reg></choice> on Sunday<lb/>
				    sometimes. Whites ate chicken <choice><abbr>&amp;</abbr><expan>and</expan></choice><lb/>
					stock made dumplings gave<lb/>
					to slaves.<lb/>

					Up at 4 o<choice><orig/><reg>'</reg></choice>clock. Eat by candle<lb break="no"/>light. 
					All gather around table stand<lb/>
					not many chairs. Most whites had<lb/>
					benches. Big man who owned <gap reason="word unreadable"/><lb/>
					Benches called slab bench. Ate out<lb/>
					of flat bottom gourd. No plates<lb/>
					Whites had some dishes. Negroes did<lb/>
					not know what plates were to eat out<lb/>
					of. Eat before going to field. If you<lb/>
					were late take food with you<lb/>

					without it. Corn bread mostly. Biscuit<lb/>
